Default 91 Accord idle and running erratic

Hi folks, very first post here. I really appreciate your help on this problem my mother has had with her accord for several months now. I try to do most of the simple stuff for her and am pulling my hair out because of this.

Its hard to explain the problem but here goes, when the car is sitting and idling, it revs, ever so slightly up and down on a basically smooth pace.

When you are driving the car it does the same thing, not matter how much acceleration you are giving it.

The dash lights and head/tail lights brighten and dim with the rhythm of the engine.

There is also a clicking sound coming from under the dash with the pace of the engine revs.

I have put a new idle control valve ($300) in. We have replaced the alternator. Some other sensor that I cant recall at the moment.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? When she drives at night her head light brighten and dim slightly with the engine and shes freaked about it.

Thanks so much if anyone can give a hand!

Regards,

Chris

welcome to the forum. Check your throttle position sensor, and the map sensor.

It know that you can jumper off the connector under the passenger side kick panel to activate the codes. But I do not know how to read the codes or what what the codes tell me??

Can you guys help on that? Thanks again for the suggestions!

if you have an engine light on, you will have codes to read, if you have no engine light on, there will be no codes. Also if you call around, places like autozone, or amco transmission will read your code for free.
