Default '93 Accord SE - Replace Vehicle Speed Sensor

I'm having speedometer problems. Odometer and trip odometer work fine, but speed needle is completely erratic. I searched and found out that the speed sensor is the likely culprit. I found a replacement part online - kinda expensive - and even found that it is located above the thermostat. The problem is that I cannot locate that. I followed the radiator bottom hose but didn't see anything I could ID as a thermostat housing.

Can someone point me to a diagram or wiki that will show me where these parts are located?

TIA

welcome to the forum. the speed sensor is located under the air intake duct, ( needs to be removed) back and down of the electronic air control valve. the EACV.the valve is what you bleed after the anti freeze is replaced to bleed all the air out of the system. the speed sensor has 2 bolts holding it in place both can be accessed from the top, with a 3 prong connector sitting on top of it. you might be able to get parts from a salvage yard if you know of one near you with foreign cars.

OK, my roundtuit arrived. I'm ready now to replace the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). When I pulled the old non-functional part out, there appeared to be some sort of lubricant on the little pin that goes into the block. The new one is not lubricated. Do I need to lubricate it before installing it? If so, what lubricant?

Well, I finally got around to replacing the VSS with a new one from RockAuto. I used dielectric grease. Everything went back together without problems; however, the speedometer speed indicator still does not work. What else is there to check? Is there a mechanical speedo cable like they used in the old days? Is there a sensor in the tranny? I don't know where to go from here.
