97 Accord Brake Clicking
Hello,
I am the proud owner of a '97 Accord EX V6. I bought the car from a family member back in December, and have already grown to love it. However, I've been having a problem with my brakes lately, and I've had a mechanic look at it twice only to tell me that theres nothing wrong. So here it goes:
Whenever I'm going around 30 mph or below and put minimal to moderate pressure on the brakes to slow down, the front brakes make a clicking noise and it sounds like theres friction going on somewhere in there. Its blatantly obvious when I'm going through a drive through at a fast food place because of the echo of the wall right next to me, pushing down on the brake to stop from slowly rolling and it clicks loudly to a stop, and as I bring my foot off of the brake, it clicks as it starts to move again, unless i let go of my brake immediately without easing off of it. My mechanic has told me that the rotors are fine and the brake pads have plenty of tread left on them, and said he drove it around and couldn't hear anything. My aunt who works for an auto mechanics shop also drove it around, and could only here it 15% of the time, whereas i hear it almost 100% of the time. It seems to get worse the longer I drive for, and if I don't drive around for a while, it takes a while to get bad again. By holding the brake at a certain position i can make it make the noise continuously until i press harder to bring it to an abrupt stop. I should also mention that when it does make this clicking/friction noise, I can feel slight feedback on the brake pedal. I've been surfing around the net and the only ideas I've come up with so far include something wrong with the brake caliper or the rotors, but the mechanic says everything's fine. Any ideas before I take it to Honda? Its truly starting to drive me crazy.
Thanks,
Dave.

RE: 97 Accord Brake Clicking
Sounds like it could be your cv's, constant velocity joints. These are the u-joints for the front wheel drive connected to the half shafts. Try to determine which side it is coming from, this will save on cost. Or you may just want to change out both sides. Honda will be expensive to have it done at, you might want to find a drive shaft shop, lesser cost. Be sure it is a reputable place.
