Default How often do you replace rotors?

Hello.

How often do you replace your front pads and rotors?

I have a '97 lx. Ive probably replaced my brake pads 3 times since i hit 100k. January, 2013 had 157k miles when my local mechanic/garage did replaced the front pads/calipers/and rotors. I brought it into the shop 2 months ago and they said i needed to have the rear brakes done, so i did them - but the vibration got worse, it felt like the whole front end would shake when i applied the break until the car came to a stop. So i brought it to the shop again today. I now have 165k miles on the car now and the same mechanic/garage is telling me that the pads are fine, but the rotors are completely shot and need to be replaced.

My question is: does this make ANY sense? Could the rotors be completely worn out after a little over a year and only 8K miles??! I drive the car about every day, but very light, not heavy traffic/lights/etc. How could the rotors need replacement but the pads still have plenty left on them? I believe all parts were just oem regular stuff.

I have this gut feeling that i paid for the rotors last year, but didnt get them. Now im going to have to pay for them again??! I wonder if the rear brakes really didnt need to be replaced, and thats just MORE money im wasting.

But thats why i ask. Has this sort of thing ever happened to you? What would you recommend i do. Right now its just sitting over there. The person at the counter said the warranty on them was 3k miles. When i asked her these questions regaurding rotor life she kinda got flustered and had to call me back

First post here. Thanks

It was $500 for front new pads/calipers/rotors 8k miles ago(jan '13) then +/-400 for the rear brakes 2 months ago, now another $400 for the front rotors!!!???

why were the calipers replaced ??? im still on stock oem rotors and stock oem rear shoes at 160,300 miles. my rear shoes are fine because rear brakes only use 30% of the stopping force the front brakes do all the work my rotors could use replacing or i just could have them resurfaced. no 8k miles is not going to wear out new rotors not even the cheapest chinatown knockoff but exsesive heat can cause them to warp causing vibrations when stopping. take it somewhere else ASAP or better yet replace them yourself there held on by 2 screws for god sake its not rocket science then save yourself $300 dollars and more heartache.
