Default taillight problem

I had a similar problem. A few months ago, my brake lights would not go off. It caused my battery to die. The problem was a little plastic pad that was attached to the stem of the brake pedal had broken off. This piece depresses a switch that turns the brake light on and off. I was desperate to solve the problem at 11p.m. and ripped an eyeball out of one of my wife's stuffed animals, which was the approximate size. Worked like a charm- still to this day. She still blames my poor dog for it.
