Default Oil Dilution

Hi all,
Has anyone in this forum have a problem with oil dilution with a 2018 or newer Accord with the 2.0 turbo engine. If so will a oil catch can help. Thank you in advance.

From my understanding, the 1.5 turbo engine is the one with the oil dilution issue.
There are many schools of thought about this.
I prefer the one where there is the turbo which makes higher pressure
Add to that the engine is GDI, gasoline direct injection
It makes for quite a bit of extra pressure
So, I believe it pushes the gasoline passed the rings and dilutes the oil.
Colder climates might add to the effect
Do not believe an oil catch can will help
But, if you do use one then please let us know

Default Oil Dilution

Thank you for your response, I also believe that a catch can may not make a difference, my only question would be why is just the 1.5 engine effected. So far I have not had a problem with my 2.0, and I never have a heavy gasoline smell from the oil so I guess I can only keep a close eye on the situation. Thank you again for your response.

The 1.5 turbo has added pressure from the turbo boost and then the GDI (gasoline direct injection) add huge amount of added pressure to the cylinders
This added pressure is too much for the rings to handle. So the gasoline gets passed the rings. Oil gets gas added to it and the level goes up.
Then add that the place where the climate is colder and the rings do not expand as rapidly as it would in warmer weather climate places.
That is my belief. It could be something else. Not an engineer.

Thanks for posting this. You are correct by the way. Shopping for my wifes next vehicle and came across this post, which led me to do more research and found a new class action lawsuit for the 2018 to 2021 Hondas with the 1.5 turbo engine. Here’s the link: Honda Oil Dilution Problems

Decided to stay away from the turbo engine
