Arrow Passenger airbag off indicator

Is anybody having a problem with the passenger airbag off indicator light going on (signifying that the passenger airbags are off) while driving with an adult passenger, weighing more than 70 lbs., is sitting in that seat? I'm especially interested with the 2020 models.

welcome to the forum. if you have a problem on a 2020 document when this happens and have the dealership service dept fix it under warranty. no one needs a failure of the airbags for any reason.

Arrow Passenger airbag off indicator

The new car was taken to the car dealer. He claimed all components of the system, including the weight sensor, were tested and found to be working properly. But he drove my car and another new car with the adult that accompanied me sitting in the passenger seat. The air bags would often turn off. This showed that the problem is not limited just to my car. He also drove other slim adults in both cars with the same result. This showed that the problem is not unique to the adult I brought with me. The Dealer concluded that this was caused by the normal variability of the system. Using the weight of the passenger that I brought along, this implies that an adult weighing within about 40% (probably greater) more than the threshold weight of 65lbs. might have the airbags unexpectedly tuned off. I contacted Honda America which agrees with the Dealer. I contacted the NHTSA. I have received no reply as of yet. I understand it does not take action until more such complaints are made.

Thank you for the follow up. i am glad you have made the filings with Honda America and NHTSA this will help more to get this action to be fixed. why have a paid, gov forced unit in a vehicle if it does not work " sometimes".
