power steering fluid problem??

Default power steering fluid problem??

i got a 94 accord and i checked my PS fluid the other day and the level was fine but the smell of the stuff was so horrible i couldnt stand to smell it for more than 5 seconds..is it supposed to smell so bad? maybe my fluid is worn..do i have to change it? i dont have any problems with the power steering system by the way, any one got the same problem?

welcome to the forum, the p/s fluid should not smell so bad, I got some from Honda Parts and replaced my fluid and it smells ok. I have my fluid changed when they change my trans fluid each 30k. might want to change yours soon.

Thanks for replying, how do u exactly change the p/s fluid, its probably simple and straight forward but i want to doitproperly.Do you simply suck the old fluid out of the bottle and refill it with new fluid? how did u change yours?

I removed my return hose and placed an extension hose to drain out into an oil pan, and pluged the pipe with a hose plug and clamp, then had a friend start the car and I just added clean fluid through a funnel into the resovoir as it drained out into the oil pan. Caution not to overfill to quickly, it may get a bit messy.
