Default Syn or conventional?

hey everyone,
Im new to the forum and i just purchased a 2003 accord lx with close to 200k miles with the k24. Its been very well cared for its whole life. It looks like the previous owner used conventional motor oil but id like to get the most out of the engine but i dont want to break up any build up that might be holding seals together. Ive done some searches and ive got mixed answers so id like to ask you. Synthetic or conventional at this stage? Thanks!

welcome to the forum. i would continue to use the same oil the previous owner used. you are correct to not want to break up any build up. i've seen this happen a few times with high miles vehicle.

Understood. Now, I’m curious to know. I’ve seen several high mileage oils but only some are labeled as full synthetic. Would it harm the car to go with a regular high mileage oil?

I don't see how it could harm anything,I also use full synthetic oils in all my cars.

if to change to full synt. oil then you are locked in and not able to go back to reg. oil. Or at least that is what I have been told. so that is now the only thing I put in my wife's car. also you have to get the oil filter that matches. I use Mobil 1 full synt. and a Mobil 1 matching filter for synt. oil.

You can use any filter you want with syn oils,I use Fram filters and Mobil one oil in my Vette. Our new Accord uses Mobil one and a Honda filter.
