1991 Civic Hatchback
Hi,
I just bought a 91Civic hatchback, completely stock. It has 198,000 and still real strong. Well cared for car. I was thinking about getting a new motor for it and kinda fixing it up. Not really interested in racing, but would really love to make this car a performer (motor, tranny, suspension) and give it a good face lift. My question is, what type of motor does it currently have and what other motors are compatable. Heres what I know and can find by looking at the engine. 4 cyl. 16 valve 1500 cc. eng. type is mhn1.5v5fcf7 displacement is 91cid, manual trans. Everything appears to be stock. Any starting points for me would be helpful. I should also mention that the car will be my daily driver. I will need to be able to do most of the minor things on the weekends and evenings, save up for the right motor (prefer a new one from the crate) and then share my wife car when having the paint and body work done.
Thanks for ant type of advice.

welcome to the forums.. i can not give you the exact engin code but i can tell you where to find it.. to the left of you exhaust manifold on the block there should be kinda like a plate where it will have a code similar to D15A5 or D16A6 etc. D= single over head cam.. the 2 numbers after D is the liters and the last number and letter code is where it was made and if its vtec or not.
