2003 Civic EX Burning Oil
Hello, I have recent issue with my sons 2003 burning oil and creating trouble code with Catalytic Converter. 130K is the mileage on the car and we haven't had many issues at all. Catalytic Converter was replaced by Honda at 65K and up until recently we had no issues.
We currently use Synthetic Oil in this car I'm wondering if we might be better off to go back to conventional oil.
I'm going to replace PCV valve and VTEC solenoid based on my mechanics recommendation, any thoughts?

65 k is really low to warrant a cat replacement what exactly was the fault code given to warrant the cat be replaced i hope they actually used a oem cat because most dealers will use after market parts to make extra money. regardless a faulty cat wouldn't cause the oil to burn so fast that usually happens from bad oil rings. are you sure its being burned off and not just being spilled elsewhere like through bad cam seals ???. synthetic oil is definitely not the problem but you could use a thicker synthetic like 5w30 instead of the recommended 5w20. the pcv valves are metal and dont need replacement just a good cleaning along with the vtec solenoid here is a DIY on how to clean them DIY: forgotten tune-up mods - Honda Civic Forum side question have you replaced the timing belt/water pump because they were due at 100,000 miles ?
