Default 2016 ex ac compressor leak

Just bought a used 2106 Civic ex with 27,000 miles in June. Bought “as is” but it’s a newer model low mileage civic - what could go wrong?

2 weeks ago the ac started blowing hot air. Dealer diagnosis a leaking compressor $1200 repair. Warranty was up this past April so it’s out of pocket. Also the part is on back order. No estimated time of delivery so it could be weeks.

Looking around other forums this seems to be a common issue with this car. It’s pretty disappointing to say the least.

Does anyone have insight or experience with this? Is there a design flaw in these ac systems? Any luck getting Honda to cover this out of warranty? Thanks

How did you get a 2106 Civic ... lol
Leaking compressor???
Never heard of such but live and learn

On Earlier Honda, the engine design made the compressor sit in a hot spot.
It was not unusual for the clutch on the compressor to fail around 85K miles
Don't know about the 2016's

Good luck

lol - greetings from the future!

Anyway, as for 2016 , not sure if posting links is allowed but just googling “2016 Civic ac” brings up many discussions of acs failing due to leaking compressors and/or condensers. So whether it’s a real systematic problem or not with this model there certainly is a lot of talk. I would have chalked it up to people seeing a pattern in random data but now that it’s happened to me I would really like to know the truth!

At any rate I’m very disappointed to have to put thousands in repairs in a 2016 Honda of any model.

Did you check for recalls??
If there is a recall or something then maybe cost can be passed on??

I agree with avisitor. There might be a recall. So you can save repair cost.

Checked on the Honda website and no recalls found for my vehicle. I have contacted Honda customer support but haven’t heard back yet.

Sorry, was hoping for a recall.
Have you got it fixed, yet?

No, it hasn’t been fixed yet. The part is on backorder with no estimated time of delivery. Dealer said it could be weeks. Just from their demeanor I’m not optimistic for a quick resolution. It will probably get here in time for fall weather 😆

Did you check other places to see if they have it ... like rockauto.com?
