Everyone thinks that the altenators in the civics are pain in the _____! Its really not that bad though.

1)Disconect the battery of course this is a no brainer.
2) Jack up the Front driver's side of the car and remove the wheel.
3) Remove plastic wheel well insert if its still there. (now you should have access to the altenator.
4) disconect wires from altenator and remove the bolts holding it in.
(this is the part were some will tell you that you need to remove the axle. This is not true.)
5) push the alt. so it rests between the block and the fire wall.
6) remove the altenator bracket from the block of the motor. (it should be 2-3 bolts holding it to the block)
7) pull the altenator through the small hole it may take a little flipping around but it does fit.
8) re-assemble in the reverse order.

This works on almost all civics 88-2000
taking out the axle is a headache and time consuming.

Hope this helps.
