97 DX Tranny

97 DX Tranny
I have a 97 Civic DX the transmission is going out and I want to eventually do a SOHC V-Tecor DOHC V-Tecswap. But most engine swaps out there don't come with the tranny. My question is can I get a SI or Type R tranny to fit my D series engine? If so is there any modification involved. Also I have a Findanza light weight flywheel installed already. Will the new Transmission work with this setup? Any help on this would be great. Thanks

RE: 97 DX Tranny
Any Other D series trannys can fit your D series. So SI-yes Type R-No (B-series) EX-yes DX-yes LX-yes, so ya thats pretty much it bro. just find one out of a junk yard. the only thing that you need to make sure is weather you get a hydraulic tranny or not. because you current tranny is hydraulic. so ya.. good luck.

yes You are right about SI having a b16. but also remmeber all The older single cam SI hondas came with d16 so find a SI single came engine tranny out of an older civic, Or out of a EX, comes very close tomatching SI gear ratios. not exact but close. so if you do get a chance on either tranny, get it.

Do you know of any tranny out there that comes from the factory with a LSD that will fit my D series engine? If not, what would your personal opinion be as far as the best tranny for low end torque, off the line power?

RE: 97 DX Tranny
Euro Mk1 (85-87) 1.6 CRX's are fitted with an engine designated "ZC1" which is a higher spec 120bhp version of the D16a1. Which i beleive has LSD. and to tell you the truch you would be much better off finding a d16a6 because those came DOHC and strong trannys. and the only coust roughly around 600-700 for the complete swap.. only thing about them is their found in europe.. so your going to have to find an importer.... but bro if you cant afford that.. take my advice and buy OBX LSD.. and put that into your cars tranny. and its a cheaper to put that in and get lsd instead of buying a tranny.. an the money you save you could buy a better clutch.. so ya..thas bout it.

RE: 97 DX Tranny
I"m looking at a D16z6 Del Sol tranny. Is that any good and is the price fair @ $575 with only 35,700 miles on it? I need a stronger tranny then my DX cause this is the second tranny I've gone through in 6 years. Thanks again

RE: 97 DX Tranny
no sorry not good for the price. you can get a complete swap of that engine, tranny, ecu, axles, harness, mounts for that price... so i reccomend... looking for a complete d16z6 swap for 600 or finding a tranny for 100 bucks thats what i would look for.
