Default Crx cam gear issue

So I just aquired a 85 crx si. Its was my buddys and used to run fine. The cam gear got loose...the key in the cam that should hold the gear is there the bolt was loose though. My questions are this should the cam gear have a groove for the keeper because it does not. Does it just rely on the bolt? and also how the hell do I line up the vaulves with the crank now? Im not a stupid Ive just never seen anything like it

welcome to the forums. yes it does rely on just the bolt..you will now probably have to retime the car.. you may get lucky and not have to.. if you have a book on the car it will tell you how to do that if you dont you can go to any autoparts store and pick one up for less than 30 $
