Default Dealership seldom had the parts I need

I have a 2002 Honda Civic and have used a Honda dealership several times for routine and emergency repairs. In most cases, they do not have the part needed and have to order it, necessitating an extra 25 mile round trip to the garage and paying double labor charges - once to diagnose the problem and then to fix the problem. When I mentioned this to a friend, I was told that they probably don't stock parts for a model that old. Is this a likely reason?

Welcome in,most small dealerships don't keep parts that don't turn over quickly enough, some of the larger ones I find stay stocked pretty well but the age of the part and if still in production have a lot to do with it.
