Default HELP: my engine is knocking what should I do?

I’ve got a 1999 Honda civic sedan.

context: I recently replaced the transmission in the car and as I was doing that i replaced the thermostat because it was leaking. Now when it was back on the road it was having overheating problems only thing I could fault it down to was a old radiator cap but as I was going home one night it over heated on me and a knock developed in the engine? Not sure if it was from the heat? There was a fuel/oil leak coming from the carbs which wasn’t major so could that have been an issue aswell?

anyways not sure if I should source another 1.5L engine to put into it or get something different. The only issue is with that is that a k swap is out of my budget so I’m wondering what the next best option would be for me to gain some extra power on a budget

Is the knocking fromthe overheating or is ithe knocking now constant. If it is constant engine needs overhaul or replaced.

Record the engine as you start it up and let it idle for a few seconds and then do a throttle snap (floor it for a second) and allow it to drop back to idle.
