yes I have had my 98 civic si for about 3 mths now and im just wondering if anyone else has had this same noise

every time I start the carm a few secs later I hear a loud sound... its the same sound I hear when I hit a pot hole and it sets my abs off,,,

im not sure if this is normal for it to do every time after I start the car or when I hit a decent sized pot hole but,,

my car is on stock shocks and is sitting on 17 inch low profile tires,, not sure if that makes a difference ,

any information would be helpful

Well the starter only turns the flexplate/flywheel. the starter's armeature has an overrunning clutch on it wich if it slips can go bad. the only noise the flywheel can make if a grinding sound from worn teeth. all other sounds will be in the starter. if it were anyware else you would hear it the whole time the engine is running. the starter dose not contact the flywheel wile the engine if running. the over running clutch spools up once the flywheel starts to spin faster than the starter. this forces the starter armerture to retract away from the flywheel. this can stick but if that were the case if you make noise after yo let go of the key. not wile you are starting. the starter itsleft is the most likley issue here.

 

its not when im starting the car its after I start the car and its been running for about 30 secs.. or as soon as I move it makes the sound,, and its the same sound I hear when I hit a decent sized pot hole.. the sound lasts for about 2 secs

 

may be your abs making the noise. if you can borrow/swap a set of stock tires for your car, see if this makes the noise go away.

 

are you actually moving when the sound occurs you didn't specify.

 

yes I am moving.. I can idle for 30 min no prob, 10 secs after I start to move, I get the noise,,, I hit a fair sized man hole or bump I get the noise
