Questions/advice for buying 2019 Civic Lx from dealer
Hello, I am looking at a 2019 Civic LX manual. 48,686 miles, zip code 95624.
VIN# 19XFC2E6XKE042504
Here is the listing
Here is the carfax
Here is what I pulled up for kbb
The dealer has it listed at $20,998. According to carfax it had a small accident to the front fender that must be minor because I dont see any damage in the pictures.
According to the carfax, it has had 2 owners, and it seems was traded in or sold at an Acura dealership (12/24/2024); then went to a Nissan Dealership ?? (1/13/2025) then it shows up at the final Honda dealership 2/14/25.
My questions are:
1. Is there any idea or clue about why it was passed around between three dealerships in a short period of time?
2)The KBB value Im getting is between $15 - 16.5k so it seems like there is a very big mismatch or discrepancy between this and their listed sale price. I understand its a dealership so maybe add 1-2k to KBB but this seems very, very high. Any thoughts on why?
3) What do you guys think I could reasonably be able to negotiate with them for this vehicle?
Thank you so much for your help!

welcome to the forum. will try to answer your questions. 1. dealerships look at how the car was maintained. ( if by a honda dealership it is a good dealer come see what i have, great resale ). if one dealership cannot turn it quick then off to another dealership. also could be one owner to all the dealerships or family owned. 2. KBB shows a private party sales of 17,361 to 19,036 dealership retail is a bit higher in excellent shape. low milage, very good condition, dealership has high overhead, will ask as much as the market will bear, depending on how hot civic’s are selling in the area. the dealership will try hard to get the car at wholesale, then tack on est 5k to work their magic to the buyer. 3. personally i would offer 2500 less than their retail and if they don’t want to take the offer walk away. if they really want to sell the car, they will call you back into the office as you reach your car. there are many more cars at better prices then that civic. (( and a carfax does not show if the car had a fender bender and cash was paid to a good shop with no report made.))
I know this post is a few months old but for anybody planning on buying a used Honda or any car for that matter....I will tell you my regrets on my 2019 civic. Don't get me wrong....I love this car. But I bought it from a dealer that is 9 hrs away. I was very particular with what civic I was looking for. Get it 3rd party inspected because if the dealer claims they inspected it they very well could be lying.
2 days after it was delivered I noticed it kept popping out of 4th gear. I wasn't told it had a Honda True warranty. I was told "sold as is" unless I bought an extended warranty. They of course were pushing hard to sell me a warranty. There's no way they didn't see that it was popping out of 4th. Well, I took it 40 miles to a Honda dealer to see what the repair would cost. They said to take it to a dealer that was 30 miles south of where I live because they didn't have a transmission guy at the moment. The 2nd dealer said they don't repair/replace synchros and it would be a complete replacement but that they had good news. There was a pre-existing powertrain warranty (100k miles) that was already on it and a brand new transmission was approved. I got lucky. Please have somebody independently inspect the car. Don't trust the dealer's inspection one bit.
