Default Too much oil!

Hi,

I have a Honda Civic 1996 DX with 162,000 miles. This car has been good for years but now I am having some minor problems. I need help.

This car does not tell me how much oil is in the engine sometimes. After changing the dirty oil I put in 3.5 quartz. I let the car sit for a while and check how much oil is inside. The level stays at the first notch as if there is almost no oil inside. Thinking that there is not enough oil in the engine I add more. I have now put too much oil in the engine. After driving it around the level is reading over the maximum amount.

How bad is this? What should I do now?

Your engine may have a lot of sludge in the head, keeping a lot of oil up there until it slowly drains down into the pan. if you have too much oil, you can drain some, or if it does not smoke, leave it alone. you can check to see if the oil drain holes in the head are clogged and clean it out, but becareful, you can clog up your oil screen if not done properly.

I had the oil changed in my wifes car last year and when I checked it as I always do,it was one quart over ,after calling Quick Lube to complain i took a pan and went under the car unscrewed the filter slightly and let about a quart run out,it easier than trying to put the plug back in while the oil rushes out of the pan.
