Question Upper windshield rubber molding

Hello,

We have a 2009 Honda Civic 4-D LX

Bought it new in '09 and it is starting to show it's age. We have recently had to purchase all new windshield trim pieces and today started to put them on. To my amazement after just one YouTube video the side pieces were a breeze but I wish that I had never messed with the rubber strip above the windshield. To top it off I haven't been able to find any help or even a mention of how to install that piece. It looks like it gets pushed down and forward to go onto the glass and into the slot. But that is not an easy task. I spent the better part of 2 hours cleaning the old adhesive out of the gap and trying to create a space tor the rubber to slip under the glass. It still won't slip in there. So my questions are; Do I have to have the windshield out to get that onto the glass correctly? (I hope not) What kind of sealant is supposed to be used? Is there a place online that I can get a service manual cheap?

Thanks,
John

welcome to the forum only answer i can give is to go to ebay, to find a service manual. on my 02 civic, the front windshield was changed by taking the seal and putting it on the new windshield out of the car, clean out all the old sealant and install the entire windshield and seal together. sorry i don;t remember exactly how it was done. been too long.

Thanks for the reply. I am pretty sure you are right. The only way to get that rubber piece around the edge of the glass is with the windshield out of the car. I will call around to find a good shop cuz that is one job I do not want to take on.

you are wise, i did this the first time to another car and broke a perfectly good windshield, so i now let the experts do this. if they break it they get another one to fix. i have been told they too break brand new windshields, it does suck.
