Default 2007 CRV EXL Adding LED Foot Well Lights

I need help identifying where I can wire in new LED lights in the foot well area of my 07 CRV EXL. I want them to light up when the doors are open and turn off when they are closed. I looked at the dome light but both both wires in are live all the time. Has anyone done and can you point me to the best place to make the connections?

Thanks Bruce

There should be three connection to the dome light.
One wire BRN which comes in hot from the fuse 22 under hood fuse box to under dash fuse box.
That one should be hot at all times.
This hot wire goes to the dome switch.
The switch then selects whether to be off. No connection.
Or select the door which is a PPL wire. Door switch.
Or select Ground to complete circuit and turn on the light.
I would look for the PPL wire. Check with bulb out.
Or when switch selection is off

Thanks for your comments

My CRV has just two wires - BRN and PPL. The ground comes from one of the bolts holding in the actual dome light housing. I checked the BRN and PPL connectors and both have 12V of current in them continuously. Also interesting is that the door switch has just one wire connected to it. Appears that when the door is opened the switch completes a circuit using the mounting bolt in the frame. Clever idea that reduces the amount of wire running in the car.

BRN is the hot wire. PPL goes to the door switch or to the under dash fuse box.
When door is opened, PPL should be grounded to complete circuit.
One needs to put in a relay. When dome light is energized, it should energize the relay to turn on your LED foot well lights.

BRN and PPL have 12 volts so no current runs through it when doors are closed.
The coil of the relay doesn't energized or turn on.
When door opens, PPL is grounded and current runs through dome lamp.
This current then energizes the relay and turns on the LED foot well lights.
Of course, the foot well lights need power and ground with the relay acting as a switch.
Relay is on the PPL line side

Hope you understand what I am trying to say.
