Default actuator virus

Hi to all you Honda experts out there.
I have a 2004 Honda CRV which is in very good condition and until just now had no faults.
I unlocked the doors and the rear tailgate has decided not to respond. The window above it opens fine.
Looking on the internet I find that this is a very common problem on Hondas and has been so for many years!!
Quite why a company the size and reputation of Honda have allowed this situation dismays me ,but, thankfully there are many experts out there who take the trouble to deal with this matter in a positive way and provide the care and help that fellow drivers need.
My question to you is...........how can I tell if the problem I have is the actuator in the tailgate or the actuator in the drivers door which some seem to believe is the culprit.
Any advice greatfully accepted.

Welcome to the forum. Check from the actuator back to the power source. Normally if there is power at a unit and the unit is not working you have found your cause.

The actuator is the device that moves the component necessary to complete the action desired
The switch in the driver's side door is just a switch.
If you can find the wires going to the actuator and apply 12 volts and ground to it
Then you can determine whether it is functioning or not.
Then, taking the wires to the switch off. Also, jumping the two wires should make the actuator function if the switch was faulty.
