Default Inspection...help!

Hows it going guys im new to the forum and hondas! Im sure some thread has covered this topic but im in need of a nys inspection and just failed. The mechanic said i failed due to a bad drivers side control arm but from past experiences i beg to differ. I have a 96 4 door civic thats standard with coil overs, intake, headers to magnaflow cat-back. the drivers side tire has play but only in the 12 to 6 motion and i can see what looks to be a balljoint moving directly behind the brake assembly. is there a upper ball joint or tie rod end? thanks for any help, ps. the car doesnt click or anything when turning

well now the mechanic is saying that its an inner and outer tie rod. if it was the tie rod, wouldnt it be moving in a 9-3 motion? i just dont want to replace something that has no effect on the issue. thanks.

Well instead of taking it anywhere i just decided to do it myself. So i got the outer tie rod off and just now got the tool for the inner. The new parts i got from autozone dont look exactly like the ones on there though... the outer is a bit bigger and the size of the inner (where the tool attaches) is much smaller? can i put the inner on by hand?? because the adapters only get larger to the tie rod remover tool. I dont want to have a shotty job on my tie rods. Thanks guys

This one is pretty detailed too. http://autorepair.about.com/od/fixit...nt_replace.htm
Also i hope you have checked the basics beforehand. Battery, starters, carburetor, spark plugs etc etc etc.
