welcome to the forum. Take it to a shop that will do a free download and find what the code is, this will tell you what might be going bad. make sure that your gas cap is on tight.
rpm not going up to 1k could be a leaking vaccum line or idle valve control

It would be a great idea for you to purchase a service manual so we all can understand what is being talked about. Vaccum lines sometimes produce a small hole, this will allow unwanted air into the manifold system causing the engine to run poorly, or slow. the idle control valve allows the proper amount of air into the induction system to run the engine. Go to autozone.com, register for free, and put your car info in. Go to repair and find how to fix items on the car, go to component location and you will find parts on your engine, vaccum line, idle control valvel, etc. also go to hondaautomotiveparts.com and you will see the parts diagram of your car.

no it is not bad, need to get a manual, where it will show you where the connecter is. Did you go to autozone.com to locate the part, also to hondaautomotiveparts.com to find the parts. You can also go to the library, they may have the helms, haynes, chilton, or some type of honda book to assist you.
