Default Trip Meter

I recently purchased a 2007 Civic with trip meters A & B. The manual states these run independently which means to me, if I am on trip A, it should only count mileage here (A), and should only count mileage if I move to trip B. Well, it doesn't work this way on my car, mileage is counted simultaneously on both trip meters all the time.

I asked about this at the local Honda service center, but couldn't ge the service manager to understand me. All he said was "I can't change the mileage."

Has anyone else encountered this? Any help/suggestions is appreciated.

welcome to the forum. they run independently which means you can change "A" to 0 and let "B" continue to run up milage, or visa versa. both "A" and "B" will continue to count up milage. one can be used to count milage for gas consumption, while the other can be used to see number of miles to the next oil change. It does not mean one will stop completely. neither one will stop completely, if it does, it is broken.
