I bought this 2006 odyssey lx it's been sitting for 2 years. Before they parked it they had a used transmission installed, picked it up at the repair shop, drove 15 miles, didnt even make it home, then it just died on them and hasn't ran since. What would cause this problem shortly after a transmission install? It gets gas, has spark and cranks but doesn't fire.. I put it in neutral and it tried to fire just once then no more after that. Also noticed a cpl of the transmission mounting bols weren't tightened all the way.

 

welcome to the forum. only thing i can think of is loose wire harness plugs. check the timing belt if a 3.0 v-6. if a 4 cyl check the timing. timing belt change normal is 105k miles,. .

 

It has the 3.5l v6 which I was told is an interference motor. From what I can see when I remove the timing belt plugs for inspection the belt is in tack and both cam gears turn at the same time when cranking the motor over. Also there's no noise of anything hitting the pistons or anything like that. I have yet to dig into it and do further inspecting. But I plan on it once I get time to. Thanks for the info

 

Well the belt had 3 worn down groves and the timing was only off a few notches. My question is, do I throw a new belt and try it? Or does it really do that much damage to the valves only being off a few notches.. I ask bc I really don't wanna tear the heads off just to possibly find no damage and have to replace all the gaskets.

 

you can replace the belt and if there is the water pump, cam seals, crank seal, tensioner all in the area, change them also. make sure the two cams are in the correct position to the crank. after all is replaced, do a compression check and see if there are any large leak downs, you may not have to remove the heads if the compression are all good.
