Default looking into odyssey

hello all

i'm looking into possibly buying an odyssey (02 and 03 most likely). i would appreciate your general comments about the vans, especially about transmission issues. i've read many reviews with comments about transmission problems - at this point that is the only thing really holding me back from centering on the odyssey as our next vehicle.

i also wanted to know if anyone has done any successful mods in terms of improving MPG. K&N filters help? maybe gutting out the stock airbox? pipping in colder air? headers are apparently not an option but i did find a couple of options for free flowing catalytic converters. i don't want to transform my future odyssey into a noisebox and/or a big civic but i really would be interested in some of these mods for improving MPG - thanks

alfio

welcome to the forum: the odyssey is not a vehicle to improve gas milage, it is a family big van. putting in intake or exhaust or cat back will increase the exhaust noise a lot. (Heavy Van) Looking for mpg would be for a civic, fit, small engine vehicle. Did not hear much on Transmissions, will do some research and get back to you. the odyssey is a good van, several of my friends have purchased new and still own them, 100k + no trans problems so far.

Actually alfio, there was a problem with the 2000 and 2001 tranys. I had an 01 and the trany went out at about 90,000mi. The dealer replaced it with no prob, but I received a class action in the mail about 2 month later about the tranys going out in the 99-01 with certain VIN. I also found out later that what Honda does is bascially puts an aux oil cooler on them. For some reason the prob tranys were overheating burning the clutch bands inside. The 02 had the prob fixed from the factory, so if you are still looking, go for an 02 and up or if you do look at a 00 or 01 look for the aux oil cooler on the trany.
