Default Odyssey: radio keeps blowing fuse 9, ACC Socket

OK - I screwed up. Just wanted to put that out there first.

Bottom line on top: my radio keeps popping the fuse #9, ACC Socket.

Ok - now the rest of the story. I also had a 2002 Accord. The Accord had a nicer Stereo with a 6 CD changer. The 2001 Odyssey had the basic stereo with a CD and it had a plastic compartment under it to fill the stereo spot. I recently totaled the Accord and I figured I would swap out the stereos. Didn't work so well in the odyssey with the bigger stereo.

First, it blew both Fuse #9 and #11, the radio fuse. Then I noticed the size of the fuses in the Odyssey were smaller than the same ones in the Accord. Makes sense as I was putting in a more powerful stereo. So I replaced the ones in the Odyssey with equivalent sizes. F11 no longer blew but F9 blew within 10 minutes of using the radio. After blowing it twice I decided to swap the radios back to their original cars - giving up hope of using the better stereo in the Odyssey.

The change back worked fine for 1 day. Then it blew F9 again. I'm confused because at this point everything is back the way it was before I screwed it up. If I replace F9 again I'm sure the CD will work fine again for some time before it blows again.

So did something else get messed up in the process that I can check? I would hate to bring this in and pay a ton of money to fix my stupid mistake.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Just to be clear there are other items that run on the radio circuit... ie the cigarette lighter and chargers that get plugged into them. Do you possibly knick one of these wires? Is there a faulty charger plugged in that over time is building up resistance? Are you 100% sure your wiring of the radio swap is good? If so check out the schematics of the circuit and find out what else could be causing this.

I wouldnt keep putting bigger fuses in.... Once you let the smoke out you cant put it back in!

I hear you - believe me. Fuse sizes are that size for a reason. Having said that, I very uncomfortably finally put in a 20 amp in there, it calls for a 15 amp, and it has not blown since. Before doing this - the fuse would blow about once every 2 days.

After my initial experiment of trying to swap the radios - everything is back the same way it was from the factory. I looked very carefully at the wires - nothing seems like it has ever been pinched or bent at a tight angle. While a little tight in there it looks like there is plenty of room between the panel and inside the dash. As for putting the wires back in right - it really could not be simpler - its one cable and one antenna wire. And neither can be put in wrong. When I last looked at it I was convinced that there was nothing wrong with the wiring.

Whatever I pissed off is either in the radio, or some other component that did not get along well with the attempted new radio. I'm really not excited about having a 20 amp in there but after watching it carefully for a week after putting it in I have relaxed a little. But it would not shock me if it bit me in the @$$ down the road.

If I thought I could bring this in and get it fixed quickly for a hundred bucks or so I would. But I have known way too many people with weird intermittent electrical issues that costs them hundreds (or more) of dollars to troubleshoot - and most of the problems were never found. This feels like something that would never be found in diagnostics.
