Default Oil Life Monitor

Hello. I do my own oil changes with synthetic oil in my 2007 Odyssey, and my oil life monitor is showing 10% right now, but I still have 1K more miles to go before I hit my normal 7,500 mile interval. I'm pretty sure I reset the system after the last change, but I suppose I could be wrong. Should I just change it early or stick to my schedule?

welcome to the forum. I too change my own oil on my 07 Fit, and I change according to the percentage. not by milage due to as the vehicle gets more miles, the engine tends to develop more carbon/emissions that get into the oil so the milage may drop a bit. now with 290k miles the percent comes a bit earlier then 7500 miles.

The OLM does not 'know' what kind of oil you use. It is programmed for the default oil, Honda synthetic blend. To avoid getting the 'service' notification every time you start the car you can simply reset it when it gets to that threshold. In my area and by the way we drive, the OLM doesn't get all the way down to 10% until we've got our 7500 miles. I was changing at 5000 anyway but tired of discarding oil that looked like it could go back in, so I started letting it go longer but keeping my eye on it. I use Mobil1 0W-20 (Hi-Mileage) which is the most satisfactory oil I have used in it. I don't like re-setting the OLM after it gets to 10% so I just let it keep after me until I get around to changing it.
