Default tire rot

Stock Michelin symmetry tires are starting to dry rot on the outside tread not the sidewalls. These are original equipment on 2004 Odyssey with 37k miles. Van is mostly garaged. Any thoughts or prevention would be appreciated. Joe

I would not feel safe at any kind of speed with those tires,I would replace them, 8 years is pretty good although I have taken Michelins 80,000 miles before.

Cracking is a normal aging process of rubber. The rubber in tires is no exception. The cracks are caused by a combination of stress and oxidation - so it is both a mileage as well as a time phenomenon. Good tire maintenance will slow it down.
