93 Del Sol, Late Shifting?
I recently bought a used automatic 93 Honda Del Sol. It runs fine enough for it's age and what I paid for it, but I am a bit concerned on it's shifting. The guy I bought it from used it off and on for 9 years and said it shifts like it always has.
From first to second gear, it shifts at around 3500rpm if I'm holding steady acceleration. I can convince it to shift earlier if I let off the gas, but steady pressure makes it shift consistently at about 3500.
From second to third gear, it shifts at 4000rpm. Again, I can make it shift a little earlier by letting off the gas, but steady pressure consistently makes it shift at 4000 (and it's not like I'm flooring it either).
I haven't owned a car that shifts this late before, but because it shifts at these RPMs consistently it makes me think it was designed like this. Is this normal? Did Honda intentionally make these transmission shift later to get more power for their V4 engine? Or is my transmission damaged and I'm gonna need to get it fixed soon?
