I have owned my 2016 pilot for ~ 50 months.

1. What are the guidelines for how long to run the original battery before replacement?
2. Any tips to doing the replacement?

12 volt car batteries usually last for about 4 to 5 years before they begin to fail.
Some people claim to have their original battery from when they bought their car new (about ten years).
When the car needs a new battery is when the battery doesn't hold a charge or recharge to 12.5 volts
It is usually best to test the battery before replacing it.
One tip is to make sure you look at the battery before you change it.
Remember the polarity. Where is the positive posts.
You do not want to reverse the polarity. It will cost you lots of money to fix.
If you're lucky then it will only cost you lots of time and a little bit of money.
Be careful of the tools used to take off the cable terminals. Do not short the battery.
Last tip is to use a memory saver. Youtube videos are good for looking for help.

 

Auto Zone and Advance auto will test it for free, make sure the posts are clean ,dirty posts can cause problems similar to a dead battery.
