So, my wife locked herself out on a trip and I'd like to have a key box with a spare inside in case this happens again.

Where would be a relatively accessible spot and are there any recommended key boxes? I've had to mail my key to her, and I don't want her to be in this spot ever again.

Once I used a magnetic key box to hold a spare key just in case.
And the darn thing fell off somewhere.
So, for me, I just do not use a spare key box.
Use to carry an extra key in my wallet but it don't fit right.
Sorry, don't know what to tell you.

 

I solved that problem with electronic locks. Everyone has a code. No keys to keep up with.

What's the cost on parts and is this straightforward or is best served by a mechanic?

 

I got mine from Lowes for about $100. All the big box stores have 'em. I go to Lowes because of the Veterans discount. Side note: I got the one with the manual key backup.
