its an automatic, si 2.1
to have it rebuilt, my friend said hell do it for about 1000.
he said hell replace it for about 350.
so naturally, id rather have him replace it..

my question is, does it have to be the EXACT transmission, or are there transmissions compatible with it from other cars?

 

i have a few more details about my prelude..
it will drive in reverse sometimes, but when i put it into drive, most of the time, the rpms will just spike and the car wont accelerate.
ive been told that it could be the transmissions computer, ive been told it could be the main computer..
ive also been told that my transmission is just dead.
its an automatic by the way..

so ive decided to go to my local pick n pull (though they call them u pull it up here, which i think is a stupid name) and get a used tranny for 90 bucks with the core of my old one.
but they only have an 89 and a 91 prelude transmission, are these compatible for my car?

any suggestions?

 

checked with Ecology, also checked with wikipedia.org, 1988-1991 prelude is a generation which means the parts are interchangeable. Also if you ask the u pick parts, they will research their sites and advise you also.

i forgot to mention that i have a 2.1 liter engine, which, im sure you know, didnt come out till 1990.

 

well i got the new(used) computer and put it in, same problem.
but today i noticed that the alternator belt wasnt functioning properly.
ima check that out now.

 

well, my car seems to be getting better and better everyday..
the past few days, it even started shifting past 2nd.

does anyone know how to make adjustments to the tranny without taking it out?
