Default 2001: can a 2WD JDM tranny be used to replace an AWD transmission?

2001 CR-V (AWD): the rear driveshaft was removed years ago. Need to replace the MDMA (AWD) tranny and wondering if a 2WD (SKNA) could be used since we don't need AWD, don't need to deal with another potential leak point in the transfer case seals, and 2WD JDMs are cheaper. Looking at JDM replacement trannys. Any known gotchas with this scenario?
