At this point, I honestly don't know if checking the drain tubes on each side of the car would make any significant difference.

it appears my leak has been coming through the hole behind the fender where the hood release cable runs. as i recall, the previous owner/my friend had the cable replaced several years ago. so, whoever did the job didn't reinstall the boot seal the cable runs through. it was pushed in through the hole to the inside leaving a nickel sized opening for any rain draining from the cowl to just pour right into the cab. <<sigh>>. the boot seal is still in great shape, so i reinstalled it and, for good measure, ran a bead of polyurethane around it. rain coming in late tonight through tomorrow. test run coming up
btw, there are no drain tubes whatsoever on this thing. just some molded sheet metal acting as a channel. and, no...it wasn't clogged

sure thing. i'm aware of the importance for others' searching for answers in the future. and, tbh, i had not run across this hole being a culprit in any of mine. it was easy enough discovery, though
