Default Battery going dead intermitenly

2020 CRV

The batt has gone low/won't turn over.
The 1st time I thought it was because a interior light was left on. I didn't notice a light
on before or after charging it.... charged it everything was fine.

Few week later same thing ????

Months later, happened again. same as above, no obvious reason for it going low.

Any ideas on what it might be ?

So lets spin a yarn and see if it fits after it's knitted…

Once upon a time there was a CR-V driver who has a 5 year old battery. Drivers trips are mostly short (less than 20 min). Driver does not have a basic battery tester so Driver has no idea what the voltage is or what SOC, SOH or what the “water” level is in the battery. So Driver does not know how close it is to end of battery life.

Then the light(s) are left on. That is a gut punch to an already weak battery.
(might be a red herring)

Now Driver puts the battery on life support. Hopefully Driver did not zap the battery while connected without knowing the zappers output voltage as that could be problematic.

So now the battery is allegedly fully charged. ( Wedontknowdis without a meter.)

It’s off we go into the sunset all happy but Driver does not know that Honda has thrown two monkey wrenches into his battery's future. One is AST (Auto stop/start) and the other is the dual mode alternator.

So now the battery, damaged from high discharge and weakened by cold wx goes into the spiral death cycle.

Solution: Get a new battery with the highest capacity you can find. An AGM is a good choice. From now on either turn off the auto stop/start every time you get in the V or get an aftermarket device that allows it to stay off (easy to find, easy to install and not expensive.)
and Drive with your headlights on or have a high electric load that will tell the alternator (ELD) to go into high mode (14.5v). A simple accessory plug in voltmeter will tell you.

That’s my story and I’m stickin to it!

So how was the story and is there a happy ending?

Load test the battery.

Not saying this is it on your vehicle but my son’s battery kept running down when parked for few days. Had a bad O2 sensor that was draining his battery. They replaced the O2 sensor and the battery. Let’s hope that has fixed a year long issue.

Dear Mr. Ducky....
Your responses/replies are on the mark. Told with the confidence of experience (&, perhaps, a bit of humor).
Just to acknowledge... they are appreciated.
(by me, for whatever that may be worth)
Thanks.
