CRV steering rack and pinion failure
Two months after purchasing a new CRV in late 2023, I began noticing an occasional tightness in steering. It was most noticeable when driving above 30 mph even when going straight. My Honda dealership diagnosed the issue as an intermittent failure of my steering rack and pinion. After several weeks of waiting on the replacement part due to supply chain issues, they replaced it and it seemed fixed. Now just two years later it appeared again. I returned to Honda - this time another Honda dealership. They found the same issue and again replaced the rack and pinion.
I do not drive a lot (less than 1k per month and only on normal roads). So, it is difficult to imagine what would cause two failures.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for what could cause two steering racks to fail?

It is a well known issue and there is a TSB out for it. It has to do with the EPS gear box and lubricant.
I do not have a Gen 6 so I do not know if there was a recall campaigne however you can look it up on the NHTSA or mygarage.honda.com websites.
