Mechanic claims charging a dead battery "sparked" the alternator.
Hi, Im asking this because my elderly aunt brought in her 2000 crv to a mechanic to get the alternator replaced. She left her headlights on overnight, and the battery died. She charged it and now the alternator doesn't work. The mechanic claims this is her fault and is going to try and charge her to replace the alternator again. She has the first alternator for literally a day. Ive charged many cars overnight (impala, subaru, and multiple vdubs) and have never had this happen. Is he trying to screw her over?

welcome to the forum. I have never had this happen to my honda's. had many times left the light on my 02 civic, charged battery and left for work. factory alternator lasted for 246k miles. battery charged many times. Shop does not sound reliable. Check on the internet or bbb to see if any write ups on the shop, or mechanic.

that's completely ridiculous the battery dying can not cause an alternator to fail. this mechanic is a piece of **** and is trying to take advantage of an old women. i would personally visit this shop and threaten a lawsuit if they don't fix there mistake. make sure to check the fuses to make sure thats not the problem.
