Default Is my 1999 crv dying????

First timeposter here....hope to gain some insight on a unusual eletrical?? problem. PLEASE!!
This is what is happening..when driving the crv (which has 130,000 miles), sometimes the car will completly stall whiledriving down the street.. the dash lights are on(sometimes off)and the a/c fan will still be blowing and the key chime will start to beep and the radio will turn off all at once...I will coast the the side of the road put it in park, turn the key and it will start right up and run fine. It has had a tune-up in the last 4 months, a new radiator, timing belt, and water pump also has been replaced. The car runs fine otherwise... smooth as silk.....I'm puzzled...I'm no wrench-head, but I can usually rule things out...not this one..distributor maybe partly responsible??[&:]
Oh..another issue is sometimes when I turn on the headlights the parking lights only turn on...then after a few seconds/minutes the headlights will come on....[>:]I guess it's time to look at the new Fit!
Any responses or ideas greatly appreciated....great forum b.t.w.

welcome to the forum. Yes you are close, Distributor coil (ignitor) or the main relay. Main relay symtom is start car, runs good, go to gas station, warm day, shut down, no restart, after 5-15 min will start, and drive off until shut down. Coil- hit and miss or restart and shut down.anytime and any temp of the day.
And the Fit is a good car, althougha lot smaller than the cr-v I get 35-42 mpg. Carry a lot of cargo. Price of the Fit is fair, go through the internet, no salesmen hassel. Yourcr-v only has 130k you can get a lot more miles out ofyourcr-v, cheapest vehicle to have is the one thats paid for.

Thanks for your input! The crvdoesn't have trouble starting...it just stalls while running...so I'm
thinking it's the coil...How much do you think it will cost to replace the coil(distributor)? I agree with you about having the car paid off is much cheaper than spending the money for a new one.
Iwould like to keep it arounda little longer, wife doesn't want to give the old gal up yet anyway!
My car is a 2003Mazda Protege5 with 83,000 on the clockthat is also paid for..and still looks brand new and drives newas well..can't say that much for the crv as far as the looks goes..it's kinda has had a hard10 years being the "kid hauler".Sure is nice not having a car payment though!

coil runs about 60.00 what parts house do you have around your area, also do you have a service manual for the cr-v. For right now, fix the vehicles you have at home, don't go buy anything, the economy is not great, and there is still some fall out going on.If everything is paid off and no credit outstanding other than the home mortage, then anything can be bought for a low price.
