Default 2018 Ridgeline Remote Start

Is it normal that you have to stand next to the vehicle for the dealer installed remote start to work (5m range)? And that it only runs for 5 minutes before shutting the engine off and will not restart by remote?

These limitations make the remote start an expensive and utterly useless add on. Living in a place that experiences real winter (-40oC temps are normal) the point of the starter is to NOT have to leave the house to start the vehicle. The same temps mean that 5 minutes of run time do nothing to warm up the cab or start to defrost the windshield (even with the defroster fan on high with the temp set at 24oC).

Vehicle was purchased new in Jan 2018 and has 25,000km. Maintained regularly at dealership and block heater plugged in religiously when temps expected to hit -20oC or below.

After market 2-way remote start installed in 2012 Civic never fails to start from upwards of 500m away and runs for 15 minutes. Unfortunately told this type is not compatible with push button start vehicles.

welcome to the forum. due to your car is still under warranty, take the vehicle back to the Honda Dealership and have the service department fix the problem. you should be able to start your car from a distance and it should continue to run for a while to warm up or cool the car.
