2016 Accord oil life issue....
First time poster, but I'm on Honda number 16 - starting with a '75 Civic Hatchback
Never driven anything else.....keep waiting for the frequent flyer discount, but it never comes - LOL
I got nearly 10k miles out of my first oil change. I'm at 14200 now and when I started my car this past Thursday am the dreaded orange wrench popped up and the 15% Oil Life indicator with it.
I called the dealership to ask how concerned I should be - got a young lady who told me I needed to bring it in 3 times for the next 3 1000 mile intervals so they could do a consumption test.
The dealership is a half hour away and I'm care giving for both of my elderly parents (while running my own business working split shifts!), so that's going to be quite a hassle. Didn't buy a new car to have to deal with stuff like that.
After thinking about this at length, I'm wondering if someone inadvertently put non-synthetic oil in it. Seems to make sense as it would be degrading at about that rate. My driving habits are this: 6 miles to work a day, about half at 55mph and the rest about 35. Minimal driving around town otherwise. And, at 55 years old, I'm far from a speed demon.
I sent a note to the service manager Friday, but didn't hear back, so I'm assuming he's out of town for the weekend.
So, my question to those in the know is twofold - first, has anyone had this happen before, and what was the outcome. And secondly, if someone did put "standard" oil in it, what are the long term repercussions? I've read that there should be none, but wanted to be sure.
Thanks for your help in advance.

The non synthetic would have a shorter life, making the 15% light come on earlier than it would (by about 6k miles) than the standard oil, right? That was my point.
On my 07 Fit, dealer used standard oil, approx 7500 miles 15% and wrench lite on. i changed my own oil and filter, approx 9000 miles 15% and wrench lite on. took back to dealer and requested syn oil, put in standard oil, no problems, approx 7500 15% and wrench light on. oil consumption same since new. now at 286k miles.
Well - it was a longer "story" than I wish to repeat here with the local dealer regarding this issue. Suffice to say I was a bit surprised at their lack of responsiveness and the way I was treated after leasing my last 4 cars from them (basically since they opened) I did go in and get the oil change yesterday, but wasn't given any kind of logical explanation or even anyone that wanted to answer the question. Basically what I got was "I don't know - it's all sensor based"
I think there will be a polite letter sent to the dealer principal tomorrow.
