2016 Honda Pilot: "Transmission Problem Apply Parking Brake When Parked" WTH?
So yesterday, out of the blue, my wife's Honda pilot has a pushbutton transmission that would not go into park. The error message said “transmission problem apply parking brake when parked.” Otherwise, the car runs and drives as normal but because it is not in park, the electronics don’t shut off when you turn off the engine and exit the vehicle. Long story short, I took it to the Honda dealership and they tell me I need a new transmission. $6500.
Again, the car runs and drives normally. WTH?
Thanks for any advice you can offer.

I have a 2018, push button Pilot, Elite. Took in last Wednesday for oil change, tires rotated and balance, and full vehicle inspection to see if anything else was going to be needed soon. No other issues were found.
This evening about 6pm, my husband and I got our kids loaded up to go run errands. Vehicle started up with no issues, shifted from Park to Drive to leave out driveway with no issue and right after I started accelerating from a complete stop at the stop sign to leave out neighborhood, my pilot shifted into Neutral on it’s own and knowing that the vehicle wont shift back into drive or or even Park, or any any gear, I needed ti be stopped. I couldn’t even get to the next side street before we lost momentum. Thankfully at the time there were no cars behind us. I threw on my hazard lights, and had my foot pushed all the way down on the break and it wouldn’t shift at all. My vehicle then becomes a sitting a duck in the middle the 2 lane road for almost 10 minutes, thankfully during a small break from the rain storm we were having. My husband gets out to try to
push the vehicle even though I said it wouldn’t shift. At this point he’s on the phone calling road side assistance as I jump out to start directing traffic and keeping traffic moving. At some point my husband got into the driver seat and after a few attempts, got it to shift to drive.
We drove it back to house, he did a couple different turns that required him to into reverse and then back into drive with no issue.
I’m now not trusting the vehicle I have had for 13 months and school is about to start, which I need a reliable vehicle for.
Have you had any luck on finding out what caused this issue with your wife’s pilot??? I’m hoping for good news as school for my kids starts in a week and I really don’t want to play musical chairs with vehicles with my husband Volvo S90.
