EGR engine light, slow acceleration

EGR engine light, slow acceleration
Hi,
My honda accord 96 engine light lid up. Took it to auto zone for free checking, the code is faulty EGR valve. Bought a new one and replace it, reset the ACU and all, the light went off for 1 day, and turn back on the next day. I took it back to auto zone again and it's the same error code this time, the EGR valve.
The error say it's insufficient flow to the EGR valve, something about the exhaustion flow.
My exhaustion pipe is broken, or disjoint, at the point it connect to the muffler. I THINK, since then my car acceleration just getting worse.
Since I know that the EGR valve is not the faulty part, it could very likely has something to do with my exhaust system? Is having the pipe disjoint from the muffler really bad? Is there anything that I can do? Thank you.
