I just purchased a 2005 Honda Civic EX SE from a private owner. It has 54K miles and is in really good condition.
Well I have found that the car came with special 15" wheels when new. The car now has 14" standard Honda wheels. I guess I would have spotted this if I had knew more about Honda's but this is my 1st. (helped my 2 daughters buy Honda's while in college but I have never owned one). Anyway will having 14" wheels/tires make any difference ? is mileage calulated in any way by the tire size ? Also what kind of gas mileage can I expect with this vehicle ? They told me they got around 33mpg in their driving. My 1st check gave me significantly less. Thanks

 

Tires are not always the cause of poor/lower milage if pumped up to specs. To make it simple, large rim, flatter tire gives the same milage or smaller rim taller tire same.
simple things to check to help in milage. Airfilter, car clean and polished, tire pressure up to 35 psi min. lots of city driving and a/c on drops milage. If you accelerate from a start like a tractor trailer, you will save gas. Highway driving at speed limit + 5 helps. the faster driving eats up gas. I own a 02 civic dx w/ac, 5sp, and I get 36-40mpg average city and hwy driving. Auto trans does have mild drop in milage.
