Default will a code scanner help?

My friend's car will not start even with a new battery he put in yestoday, the engine light flashed. Somebody told him that it will only signal no code until he has been able to start the vehicle and let the computer run though it's checks. When his removed the old battery he reset all the stored codes. The Maxivideo MV301 was recommended to us, but I want to know, for this, will a code scanner help???

It does take a few minutes to set a code,Will it even turn over? Is it getting fuel? Does it sound like it's firing?

As your friend said it has to run for a few minutes for the computer to recieve a trouble code,It won't set a code without the motor running.Unless it has already set one before you had starting problems.

if you look at all of Harman's post he references these scanners from the same website with some bs story to make it seem like a legitimate post so he won't get banned he thinks he's slick.
