Default 96 Accord - A/C often cuts out when idling

frequently, my A/C cuts off when i'm idling. it seems to cut out faster on particularly hot days (mid to upper 90s), as quickly as one traffic light cycle. on normal summer days (80s) i'd have to idle for a while before it quits, but it gets there at some point. sometimes after i get moving again, it clicks back on. usually i have to turn the engine off for a minute or two and then turn it back on and then it's going strong again.

every time i check the cooling fan, it's running, so that doesn't appear to be the issue. i've also had some leaks (replaced the front vacuum hose and the evaporator core), but the problem occurs independent of refrigerant level. i don't really understand how the a/c system works, so i'm not sure how to troubleshoot this. seems like either a mechanical or electrical problem.

welcome to the forum. First check to see that the pressure is correct running and at idle. then check the pressure switch. ( switch can cause in and out, also low pressure will do the same. )
