Default brake light issue on my '93 accord ex

My brake lights won't turn off, this is causing my battery to die. The switch works fine; however, the part on the pedal that presses the switch to turn off the lights broke off. The guy at autozone told me that I would either have to go to the dealer to get it fixed or I might be able to put a screw into the pedal as an easy fix. Does anyone know if this is possible or true? If so, what size screw?

You are replacing a missing or broken piece of plastic.
I think I used a 1/4-20 nut and bolt about 3/4 of an inch long.

Put it in, tighten it up and forget about it !
