Buy After Lease Q
I am leasing a Honda Accord EX-6 Cylinderand it is coming off a 39 month lease in 2 months. I only have 31,890 miles on it and have had all the maintenance done on schedule at the Honda dealer. It is like a new car ! My wife and I love this car and are seriously thinking of buying it. It seems like a great car for the residual buyout price of $ 15,375. Any thoughts on this decision ? Any thoughts on purchasing an extended waurantee plan when(if) we buy the car ? There are many companies on the internet that sell these extended plans, but I am not sure we need one with such a dependable car where we have all the scheduled maintenance done. My daughter drove her Accord LXto 240,000 miles and their Oddysey Van has 100,000+ miles with no problems. Thanks for any thoughts you may have.
Aloha gapman: welcome to the forum, hope some of us can help you out. Enjoy your stay. Per Kelly Blue Book, kbb.com I am gussing your car is a 2004,( lease started est 5/04 ) fair market value is 16,235 fair, 17,640 good, 18,695 excellent. Retail is 21,155. The price of 15,375 is good. Ask them if you can purchase this at 15,375 out the door.
The only reason to buy an extended warrenty would be if you drive like me, 140 miles per day not including weekend or vegas runs. I put approx 120k in 2 1/2 years, I never had to use it, but peace of mind.
Since you had the car and cared for it, a warrenty is not needed unless you want peace of mind, then buy it from the dealer, normally 1600.00 est. Get the dealer to give it to you at cost of 800-1200.00.
The price seems to be good. Be sure to have dash and back window deck covers to protect it from the uv rays, I beleive you leased an ex model. The prices above are based on an EX model.. If you wish, view Edmunds, NADA also to view value price. check all of them.
I purchase cars at trade in value, if they are asking higher, I ask out the door. And I usually have cash or credit union check or cashiers ck to pay it off. email me if you have more questions acmech52@yahoo.com

I have a 99 accord with 90,000 + miles and it still runs better than the average car w/ 50,000 miles. As for the warranty... I would deposit the money that I'd spend on the warranty into one of those online savings account and let it earn interest... if something get's messed up.. chances of it costing over 1,000 are slim. Honda engines and transmissions are pretty well built and if you do proper maintenance.. they will last a very long time.
Warranties are a very fickle thing in that they either expire by time or mileage(whichever comes first)... which is why I'd rather bank the money and have it for an unlimited mileage while earninga return on it. My father has a 01 chevy malibu and bought a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty on it. 42,000 miles later he goes to the dealership because the electric fan isn't working.. and some other regular maintenance.. and ends up with a 580 dollar bill and a 1,400 dollar warranty that went down the drain.
Enjoy the ride.

Good thing with leases is that.....
at this point your options are
1) buy the car
a]cash
b] finance the rest
2) trade it in and get a new car
3) sell it and if u get it more than your payoff it's your money
4) simply just return it
ifthere isare wearand tear or disposition fee
what is your payment right now??
